At the moment this is merely a proof-of-concept application. I'd like to think that people will find it useful. I have a keen interest in transportation engineering and would dearly love to make Melbourne's public transport system more accessible from the internet.
There is some duplicate data still to be cleaned up, but everything should be otherwise functional.
This is a good first step, there are several other sites/applications out there doing the same thing, so we'll see what happens..
Thanks for checking this out! Any comments/questions leave feedback or check out the blog @ http://blog.odynia.org.
In the next week or two you will see a new version of iTransit appear here.
The new release is a complete rewrite of the iTransit engine, which will provide the following new features:
- Faster Page Loads
- Lower bandwidth consumption
- Caching of static data (lists/scheduled time)
- Full use of iPhone hardware acceleration
The new iTransit engine will make full use of the available iPhone features, including forced caching of javascript and images files (so it doesn't contact the server each time), and caching of lists like station names.
For details on how this was achieved, check the
Blog.
Additionally, there will be some new features added to the front end:
- Searching
- Bus Routes
- Traffic Conditions
- Favourites
- Bookmarkable sections
- Stop location maps and train location maps
There is still a bit of work to be done though, and if you've read this far you might be interested in helping out with testing of the new version? You are? Great, head over to the feedback section and through the Beta Signup.
Thanks for supporting iTransit!
